Little Miss Muffet

Little Miss Muffet, sat on her tuffet
to have a cup of tea.
Her spider friends then dangled down
to fill their cups for free.

Original Fiction series: 1

So I don't know how many of you know I am a writer as well as an artist.  I have been working on a collection of short stories to release on ebook and the time is coming near!  I am hoping to release my book by the end of the year and in the meantime, I have started to create illustrations for the project, one illustration per story for a least six stories.

Here is the first illustration:

To read the story, stay tuned and get the book when it comes out.  It will be 99 cents, which is a smokin' deal, considering that I write really good stories.  Seriously.

Anyway, this illustration was created with acrylic, ink and Painter 12.

Tomato Soup

Ever wonder how Andy Warhol came up with his famous idea.  I don't mean the story we all have heard, how he stole the idea from someone else.  I just have this image in my head, of Warhol eating soup, in his pajamas and suddenly . . . a vision.

Tales from the Apocalypse

Conceptual illustration for an editorial article on the negative influence of employees being something that could destroy your business.  I like it because it's zombie-esque.  I like creepy things.

Many Changes

Here is a conceptual illustration.  Concrete image for a fortune cookie phrase:

"You will make many changes before settling satisfactorily."

Two things:

1. I like how happy this fifties paper doll woman looks.

2. This is kinda self-portrait-ish.  Except for the fringed vest...

the end.

except, this is still a WIP.

Torctopus

Meet the torctopus.  He is a friendly, if swim-challenged, denizen of the deep.  Due to his laziness, he prefers to use his personal underwater scooter to get from lagoon to open ocean.  And who can blame him?

Power

This is an image created to illustrate an abstract concept.  The abstract word: Power.  Get it?

Anyway, wouldn't it be funny if a little muscleman dude popped up in your lightbulb every time you flipped the switch?  Awesome.  Maybe it would play a song too, like ... We Will Rock You.

Reboot

So I originally intended this blog to be a daily sketch blog, even when I first created it back in 2007.  And I was pretty good for a while, and then it became a journal blog and then a rant blog and then it was just sad.  So I deleted it.  Everything.  Finally, a few weeks ago, I felt ready to unearth SomethingLikeArt and start up a daily sketch blog again.  BUT!  I am sketching all the time in my sketchbook and I don't have time to sketch on the iPad right now.  (Because I want to do all the daily sketch blog sketches digitally.)  SO!  This is going to be rebooted as my illustration blog.  I will post a gallery, my contact information and begin having regular posts about my adventures in illustration.  Now, for those who know me, it may seem excessive and a little redundant, because I have about a thousand blogs: Treading Words, Lee On Life, and DawgArt are the only ones semi-regularly updated.  And eventually, I'll stop posting on Lee On Life because it's a school blog and someday I'll be finished with school.  So then it will only be three... ish.

Daily Sketch #14

WIP based on Langston Hughes' "Midnight Dancer"

Wine-maiden

Of the jazz-tuned night,

Lips

Sweet as purple dew,

Breasts

Like the pillows of all sweet dreams,

Who crushed

The grapes of joy

And dripped their juice

On you?

Daily Sketch #11

I said, "What should I draw?"  So Ty ran and got a book of poetry by Emily Dickenson.  Then he read a poem.  I don't remember it, but it had the words death, chrysalis and butterfly.

ArtRage.  On the iPad.  Fingerpainting.

Daily Sketch #8

Painter 12.  I worked on this for a while, but since it's going to be changed after critique,
I'll post the WIP here.

Not Many Sketches Yet

But I have a plan for them. I installed Alias Sketchbook Pro on my laptop, so I should start using it, yeah?

In lieu of an art post, I will post a list of the movies that I should hate, but that I LOVE.

1. A Knight's Tale - Anachronistic, silly and cliche. Heath's reunion with his dad makes me cry.

2. I, Robot - SO much superfluous slo-mo. But it's Will Smith as Spooner in Converse!

3. Clash of the Titans - Who cares about story? You have NEVER seen such a pretty Pegasus.

4. Avatar: The Extended Edition - Blue aliens riding dragons! w00t.

5. Terminator: Salvation - Okay, my last three had Sam Worthington. I just like him.

Just for fun:

Movies that lots of people like that I HATE.

1. Citizen Kane - Yawn.

2. The Star Wars Prequels - George is the anti-Christ.

3. Twilight - Fans are soft in the head.  I'm serious.

4. Anything by Michael Bay.  Please Michael, make the Transformers stop.
